about

Based on a poem by Janet Patch, it was written for a friend going through a transition. Her home life was difficult and she had left her job and was packing up and moving away with her three young children. She is a yoga teacher, which lead to the reference to "tadasana." The imagery of the yoga pose, combined with the unfurling of the fiddlehead fern in the spring, provides a visible metaphor for re birth and starting over. It is a song about trial, uncertainty, and hope.

She moves
as if in tadasana
stretching toward the light
Emerging from the crush of winter
from the darkness of the earth

She unfurls
Delighting as the sun dances on her limbs
She breathes, reaches out
Spring begins, spring begins

She knows
as if on hallowed ground
she's born to do what's right
Pushing through the ice-packed litter
yearning for the sky

She unfurls
Delighting as the sun dances on her limbs
She breathes, reaches out
Spring begins, spring begins

BREAK

She unfurls
Delighting as the sun dances on her limbs
She breathes, reaches out
Spring begins, spring begins

She moves
as if in tadasana
stretching toward the light
Emerging from the crush of winter
from the darkness of the earth

She unfurls
Delighting as the sun dances on her limbs
She breathes, reaches out
Spring begins, spring begins

She unfurls
Delighting as the sun dances on her limbs
She breathes, reaches out
Spring begins, spring begins
